Komik Lokal drama club alongside its partners namely Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC), Tourism Seychelles, Creative Seychelles Agency, and National Arts and Craft Council of Seychelles (NACC) on Friday held their prize-giving ceremony at the National Theatre for the first-ever World Theatre Day competition.
The category was proudly sponsored by Cable and Wireless, Auto World, Net-1 Music, Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority and TITAN advertising.
The first place winner was Kosmoledo group from CPA Drama Club, followed in second position by theatre group Adopsyon from Praslin.
Further prizes where handed out to CPA Drama Club for Best Di- rector and Writer, Rickham Jeanne as Best Actor, while Nerrah Marie from Adopsyon was Best Support- ing Actor and Rohan Albert won the prize for Best Performer.
Director of the National Con- servatoire of Performing Arts (NCPA), Pierre Joseph, commended the performers, adding that he was happy and proud to see that the winners were former students of the drama school.
“We can safely say that this was very transparent. We are also very happy that the school of drama now partners with private companies so that drama can expand and be more than just a teaching and learning activity. It can now take the form of a business and we can bring in more people,” said Mr Joseph.
Best Actor, Rickham Jeanne, shared how he was feeling appre- ciative of the award and believed the realism of his acting was what set him apart from everybody else.
‘It is just natural talent,” he stated. Mr Jeanne said he would like to pursue a career in acting but unfor- tunately there are no such opportunities to do so in Seychelles.
For his part, Rohan Albert, who was the Best Performer, said he did not expect to win. “It was so unexpected. I deserve it and I worked so hard to do that one-man show.” +e shared that to prevent stage fright, he would talk to himself backstage in preparation for the show.
