The Seychelles National Arts and Craft Council hosted its annual Visual Art holiday workshop once again this year to engage the youth in diverse creative activities.
These workshops enable young participants to explore various forms of art, including visual, traditional dance, traditional musical instruments and crafts.
Secondary and post-secondary students were the first to attend the session from August 12 to 16, under the theme ‘lakwizin tradisyonnel’. It attracted 20 upcoming artists from both state and private schools, who were learning methods and techniques to uncover new skills and creativity.
Seychelles NATION spoke to Norisa Accouche, Arts development officer who is spearheading the workshop. “During this workshop we teach the participants different techniques in art, hence why we target students who are really interested and passionate about art,” she explained.
The participants undergo activities that teach them how to combine colours and venture in collages and mixed media. “For example on their first day the students learned the different aspects of the creole cuisine as well as taking a trip to the museum with their facilitators,” she shared.
2n their last day the students will finalise their sketches using a manipulation of colours and include all they have learned within their projects.
Professional facilitators, who are experts in their respective fields, provide guidance to the participants. The NACC’s approach helps participants to create diverse works and discover new talents. The expected outcomes of these workshops are that more young children and emerging artists will participate in these workshops and that more talents will be discovered and nurtured for the creative industry in the future.
The students’ art work will then be displayed on August 20, 2024 at the International Conference Centre (ICCS) during the presentation of certificates.
The NACC has extended its gratitude to all dedicated staff, facilitators, participants, partners, and parents for their invaluable contributions, which have been instrumental in the success of these sessions.
